In order to clear my ticket, I would have the registration renewed and car inspection passed. But I owe tolls of 500 dollars before fixing and renewing my car. It’s headlight is out due to an electrical problem which easily makes the whole process around 1000 dollars. My parents recommended donating it since the car is on its last legs. They said it might clear the ticket.
When I was an Assistant DA we would accept documentation showing the person no longer owned the vehicle usually they were repo'd or sold for scrap. However, donating may do that trick. Your toll fees wont go away though. Also the DA's office does not have to dismiss it, so its not 100%.
If the tolls you refer to are from driving on I-540 or other toll roads in NC or elsewhere, donating your car won’t help a bit. Fines for late paying tolls will continue to go up though. I didn’t think NC would go after me for about 37 cents for bring on 540 for less than a mile so I ignored them and ended up having to pay around $40.00
