My husband is on L1 and I am on L2. My EAD expired recently. My Visa is valid till September so I am not applying for new EAD right now. I am waiting for extension to complete before I can apply for new EAD.
I am looking to start importing Bed Sheets and Home decor items, which I plan to get custom made in India under my own brand name. I plan to have my own website as selling channel along with sites like ebay/amazon etc and retail tie ups.
I would like to manufacture in India and then ship entire batches to US and stocked here, which then I can ship to US customers.
Generally, owners of businesses cannot get an L1 visa. It is supposed to be for managers, supervisors, etc., not the owners. With regard to the business, you can start a US company from outside the States. If you are going to be importing goods, that might be a good idea. Alternatively, you can register your corporation in India and file a Certificate of Authority to transact business within North Carolina, if you are going to be storing and shipping our goods from India to North Carolina. As far as taxation goes, a C-Corporation will be taxed at the current corporate tax rate and then again at the shareholder level. Additionally, US Corporations are taxed on their global income.
What you are attempting to do can be very complex. I suggest that you engage the services of a business attorney with experience setting up foreign owned US corporations. You may also want to consult with a tax professional.

You can do it directly from India if you get a bank account with an international bank like HSBC. However, having a usa llc might reduce resistance some people have from dealing with a foriegn company.
I disclaim everything and make no represention of the applicability or accuracy of anything I said here. You are not my client; i am not your attorney. I thought about making this disclaimer as a poem and quickly decided not to do so. Robert Frost can sleep easy.
You need to speak to an immigration attorney first before you proceed to make sure you don't create a problem for yourself.
this service is not a substitute for an in office interview and paperwork review. it does create an attorney client relationship.
