I'm fourteen and in my first year of highschool.
I got a test back two days ago and my score was an 89%. Now, my parents are very strict about grades and anything below 95% or so is failing in their eyes.
I didn't have plans to show them but I accidentally left it out on my desk while at school yesterday. So of course my mother saw it. I get home and my mother is sitting on the couch, belt in one hand and my test in the other. She asks me to explain this, I don't say anything.
She starts beating me but this time she's really ballistic and I'm just scared - so I hit back and then run into my room with the door locked. Anyways, she has about 3 red marks on her arm from where I dragged my nails while getting away. But I have welts on my upper arm from the belt and a bruise on my upper cheek where she punched me.
She's really in shock that I struck back and is threatening to call the police and get me arrested because she's my mother and you never hit your mother back.
Is this considered self defense or did I really do something wrong?
You should reach out to someone you trust - a family member, teacher or counselor at school - and talk to them about your life at home. Parents are allowed to discipline, but not abuse their children.
