He turns 18 next April. what can I due now to make sure I get child support at least through school? And Can I request support when he is in college and still living with me? Do I file paper work with the court? Please help me.
Contact your local child support enforcement agency and ask for a "Petition for Extension of Child Support beyond the Age of 18 due to the child being in high school, with a reasonable expectation of graduating before turning 19"
That should get you started. You MUST move quickly, you will lose your opportunity after he turns 18.
Typically, child support ceases when a child reaches 18. However, if the child is still in school, working towards graduation, and expects to graduate before turning 19, a court can continue child support.
