I am being charged with promotion of prostitution of a minor in NJ. It was an internet sting with online ad for 16 y.o. I'm looking at one charge, 3rd degree, and probation. No mention of Megan's list in NJ. I have no prior record. I am a PA resident. If charged with promotion of prostitution of a minor in NJ, will I automatically have to register as a sex offender in PA, and be put on Megan's list? Is there an alternate charge I should ask my NJ lawyer to negotiate to avoid the list in PA?
If you are required to register as a sex offender in one state, you will most likely have to register in another state. You should speak with your attorney and see if you can plea to a lesser crime which can remove you from having to register and no jail time.
