My dad gets $139 taken out of his social security every month towards medicare insurance. I am told that when he dies medicare will seek reimbursement for any medical costs he has incurred and a lien would be put onto his house when he passes. Is that true? why would they if it is insurance. I thought insurance was suppose to cover medical costs and not add to costs or rather it be taken out of any profit on the house should it be sold.
Medicare does not seek recovery for medical expenses that are not related to an accident where some one else is at fault. There might, however, be a recovery by Medi-Cal for medical expenses/insurance premiums paid by Medi-Cal. These are benefits Medicare recipients often receive.
