My spouse and I were pursuing a fixed rate mortgage and we had to remove our children from the original deed and put my spouse on thus necessitating a quick deed.At the closing table we went through everything page by page with no mention of any additional fees. Awe later the lawyers office contacted us saying they needed an additional $1,000 to file the deed.Unfortunately we do not have the money.
It would seem that is the rate the attorney charged for creating and filing the quit claim deed. It is not unusual for attorneys to charge for the work they do. I rather suspect the quit claim deed was an additional incurred cost that was not originally anticipated by the parties.
