I got in trouble with the law. The DEA busted my friend and I was with him so they gave me attempted distribution and drug paraphernalia. This happened two weeks ago, off of any school property Late at night, and I'm 18. Just yesterday my teachers are now talking to me about it bringing up my charges because I guess they've seen my police report and know about all of it and are punishing me for it.
It's possible the school did not obtain a police report, but received the information from other sources. Can't say whether or not you could receive punishment from the school as it depends on many factors. I would be less concerned about your .teachers questions and focus on defending your criminal charges. Seek advice from a local criminal attorney right away.
At this point, all you can do is speculate. But in Utah, you probably don't have any claim, so it may not matter. Being a high school student makes not difference in your situation, and the administrative rules the school district operates under are more applicable.
Distribution of controlled substance is a very serious charge. You should be careful not to talk about this case with anyone other than your Lawyer. When there are multiple co-defendants in a case it is always possible that one of the co-defendants may be more liable than one of the others so you definitely should not be talking about this case with your codefendants. Schools can potentially punish their pupils for controlled substance violation even if they occur off campus. A good Criminal Defense Lawyer could help you with both the school problem and the criminal problem.
