In Sept. 2018 I was notified by my employer (2 days before my paycheck) that my wages were being garnished. I received a notice from the collector at the same time. After the amount of the debt had been garnished (Feb 2019) I realized that the garnishment was still be deducted. I contacted my employer and they said they had to have a court order to stop the garnishment and they would contact the collector to file the paperwork with the court. On April 12,2019 I received a refund from my employer for the total amount garnished since Sept 2018. Why did they refund me all of the money? What do I do?
I would speak with the employer. It appears they accidentally refunded the entire amount and not just the improperly held overage. Ask your employer for a copy of all the garnishment paperwork they received. Also I would advise them of the mistake. Last thing you want to do is spend the money then have your employer realize the mistake and you can’t return the money.
