Why can't an employee of a school sue beyond treatment for an assault by a student?

I don't know that you can't sue the school. However, you are probably first bound to exhaust the remedies available to you through your collective bargaining agreement (assuming one exists). You need to work with your union leadership, file complaints for the various infractions, and resolve the problems that you're dealing with.
Be aware that this response does not create an attorney/client relationship. I live and work in Massachusetts and may or may not know the local laws where you live. I hope people find my responses not only helpful but somewhat entertaining as well. If you rely on this as legal advice, remember the old saying, "You get what you pay for."
