I was pulled over for expired registration. I was arrested/ detained whit bail car got towed and officers removed my plates
Sounds like they did, so yes they can.
I am licensed attorney in Washington and California who focuses Serious DUI Cases such a 2nd DUIs, 3rd DUIs, 4th DUIs, and Felony DUIs and DMV hearings. I also have much experience handling car accident cases. Although the information I provide is helpful, it is not legal advice. Although Avvo makes it clear to consumers that attorney answers to questions are for general purposes only and do not establish an attorney-client relationship, some attorneys prefer to add their own disclaimers to answers. You can set your custom disclaimer here and it will be automatically added to your answers. Do NOT include any direct solicitations or contact information.
It is highly unusual for the police to remove your license plates just because your registration sticker is expired. There has got to be more to the situation than meets the eye. I would hire a well-qualified traffic attorney to appear on your case. That attorney will file a motion for discovery and obtain copies of the police report and impound report. Once more information comes to light you’ll have a better idea of what is truly happening. Good luck!
Listen to the information given by the other attorneys here and hire an attorney to assist you with this matter now. Do not hesitate.
