I live in a guest house that I share with a roommate, we and our visitors have been harassed soon after moving in by the landlord and family; he verbally asked us to move out and refused to collect the rent money, using intimidation to push us out,--written documents or contract was not signed-- all this started after we asked him not to roam around the house windows and have repairs done. I suspect that this unit is an illegal construction and will like to find out. I know his conduct is improper, but, is it illegal? What can I legally do to have him stop in the meantime we find a new home?

He wants you to leave, and you apparently want to leave also. Confirm in writing that he gave you verbal notice and refused to accept rent, and then leave. Problem solved. You might be able to stop the other conduct by filing a lawsuit or seeking a restraining order, but that will take longer and be more difficult than finding a new place to live.
