My kid mom went to prison for 9 months she gets out and somehow I owe her childsupport for the whole time she was in prison, adding up to a couple thousand dollars. While she was in prison the child bouced around from aunt to gramma to aunt to gramma. She didn't do anything to give one of them tempary custody. The state wants the money. I want to know if she is frauding the state by collecting support on a child she couldnt of possibly been taking care of because she was incarcerated and what steps I should take?
Sorry for your situation. However, support orders stay in force until they are changed; and you cannot retroactively modify them (go back in time). If you pay to the state (through DCS), you are welcome to call the support officer and talk to them. You should also go talk to a lawyer (buy an hour of time) and get them to point you in the right direction.
Our Rating is calculated using information the lawyer has included on their profile in addition to the information we collect from state bar associations and other organizations that license legal professionals.
