I was caught shoplifting at NY shoprite. I dont know what has gotten into me, I was so broke. I was called to the back room and asked to empty my bag. The police was not called which I am very thankful. The guy just asked me to sign a paper that IDK if i even read I was too nervous and confused and didn't know what to do. Now I am scared whats going to happen to me. I am an LPN, supposedly earning a little bit more than the average but with the bills and all i am not proud to say that I am still living paycheck to paycheck, most of the time not even enough. Does anyone know what will happen?
You will receive a series of civil demand letters seeking 5 times the cost of the goods up to $500. I advise my clients not to pay the civil demand because I have never seen a store sue to collect. I write a letter to the store or its lawyer directing them not to contact my client and that ends the matter. This will not show up on a criminal background check because you were not arrested.
