I am currently 13 years old and after thinking for a LONG time , I have decided I want to become emancipated from my parents . I have a horrible relationship with both my parents ( they are divorced ) and its not a very happy environment . I do not wish to live with my father nor my mother due to the fact it is becoming miserable for myself and my parents . my mother and I especially . she is verbally abusive to myself and other members of the family . her current husband was sentenced to prison for drug abuse . I do not feel safe in this environment . overall life is becoming miserable and emancipation seems to be the only solution I can think of . I know living on your own would be very difficult considering , medical care , food , expenses , education and shelter . thank you .
Sorry but a 13 year old cannot be emancipated. Children of divorced parents are often unhappy but that is certainly not a reason to be emancipated. However, if you are in an unsafe environment, DHR may be able to provide a safe place for you. Maybe talking with another family member will be helpful. Good luck.
