I received a check today from my old employer stateing i had worked when i havent worked at all
I don't know what would happen. However, I can say that it would be unjust enrichment if you kept the check. In that event, the employer would be able to haul you into court and disgorge you of the money.
The ethical thing to do would be to return the check and inform them of the error. Your previous employer might appreciate the gesture and you'll have burned one less bridge.
