I’m a minor and I made the worst decision of my life, I was two other girls and we shoplifted. I had about $47 worth of un purchased items in my bag, security stopped me and the girls, I was the only one who was respectful and listened to everything they said. I was given a ticket and a court date. I’m really worried about court and what’s going to happen and I don’t know what to do in this situation because otherwise I’m a really really good kid.
You're doing well in the respectful and listening departments. If this is your first shoplifting ticket, you're likely to be offered either a diversion or deferred sentence. You need to go with your parents anyway, so encourage your dad or mom to be like you (respectful, not shoplift), and ask for the diversion, which lets you avoid a plea, take a class, and be done with this episode in your life.
If the prosecutor won't offer at least the deferred, which like the diversion when successfully completed can be sealed (no public record), your folks should ask for a continuance to have time to consult with a lawyer. I would be very surprised if you don't get an offer like that, though.
Best of luck, and don't worry, because you do indeed sound like a really really good kid.
While it is not the most serious crime in the world, it is also not something you should take lightly (which you clearly are not). Given your lack of prior record and your good character (get letters from people you know showing that you're an excellent person) you should be able to avoid jail. You should also get a chance to keep this off your record as well. If money is not an object, hire an attorney immediately. If money is tight, see what the City Attorney will offer you (without making any statements about your case at all) and then consult with a free attorney regarding the plea deal. Good luck!
