Hello Sir, Madam,
My friend who has been a manager at a local coffee shop in Oceanside for the past the 4 months has been paid under the table and for less than minimum wage. She got $350 biweekly for working 40hours a week! The owner is writing her checks (but title on it is as groceries). While I would love to give her advice, I thought I would ask Avvo lawyers expert for your point of view on the best course of actions to get paid accordingly to the law. Thank you very much
Sounds like a possible wage and hour violation. Discuss the facts with a labor and employment lawyer and consider an action before the Labor Commission to recover back pay with interest.

Your friend can go to the California Labor Commissioner. For Oceanside, the closest office is in San Diego, at:
DLSE - Wage Claims
7575 Metropolitan Drive, Suite 210
San Diego CA 92108
The office will help your friend file the complaint based upon the facts as your friend understands them, will listen to the case, and will help her recover her money, without taking a percentage of the recovery, and will be relatively quick about it. This is really the best option for your friend.
