My great uncle was helping with repairs on his house when he fell 6 feet off of a retaining wall. This lead to bleeding on the brain and he was put into a medically induced coma and put on a respirator, he was not responding as the doctors had wanted so he was taken off life support and passed away. Now my aunt was contacted by police saying they suspect foul play and want an autopsy. She doesn't want one but they said she either agrees or they will get a court order. The hospital said they suspected elder abuse because of the bruises on his body. (he was on blood thinners and has a history of falling) It's delaying his life insurance and causing the whole family much distress.
I recommend you contact an experienced criminal defense attorney in your jurisdiction as soon as possible. There is just too much at stake here. You will also want to gather any documentation, photographs, names of witnesses, etc ... that can collaborate the cause of the bruises.
