Sorry to hear you are going through this. Your best bet would be to show all the checks that you have made out to the landlord or its management company that you gave to the prior manager. If you paid cash, and never got an invoice, you should go through your bank statement and highlight all the withdrawals you took around the time rent was due to justify to the new manager that this money was taken out to pay the rent. These types off matters are very paper trail dependent, and if there is no banking records or invoices, you have to negotiate with your best foot forward. Good luck to you.
