My lease was up and I was due to move. I am going through a divorce and this was our place together. My ex turned in keys and moved his stuff weeks prior. I was having hardships and not able to afford a truck or storage. I had communicated this with the office, and they asked me if I wanted then to throw my things away to leave written notice. I obviously did not. I even sent them an email I was working on it and would do it withing the next few days. I finally went to gather my stuff and my apartment was emptied. Not one thing of mine or my kids. I called the office and they told me they disposed it. I asked why and they said I told them if I didn't move it they could do so. A complete lie or my ex husband sabotage. I didn't even turn my keys in yet. Everything I own was there. I have nothing and was a stay at home mom, so I have zero income because my ex and I have seperated
If your ex turned in the keys, then the apartment was probably within its rights to assume that whatever you had there was abandoned. Either tenant could have given this notice. If the issue was your ex telling them things, bring this up as part of the divorce. If you don't have income of your own, you can have an attorney motion the court that your HUSBAND needs to provide money for an attorney.
