The lawyer canceled the court date and told the person not to show to court now he locked up for a warrant for his arrest for failure to appear. Will he be able to get out? What should we do?
Maybe. But you have issues with the lawyer. have him/her fix it. Or report them for the screw up.
It is up to the lawyer to make this right or face the consequences for their failure to make it right. Otherwise, you may need to hire a new criminal defense attorney. First, contact that attorney.

The answer to this question does not establish an attorney/client relationship nor does it constitute legal advice.
Lawyers can’t cancel court, only Judges get to make that call. You need to contact your attorney and let him explain the mistake to either the prosecutor or the court in order to get the warrant lifted. He will have to stay put until the bench warrant is lifted.
