At the end of November I was given a 45 day notice to move. I rent a granny flat attached to my landlord's home with a bedroom, kitchen, and living room area where my children sleep. The notice was for 1/15/2020. On the 4th my landlord defaulted on a verbal agreement we made and she gave me a 3 day notice. I became aware I had 3 business days to get legal advice. Every day thereafter she has harassed me by text or by repeatedly entering the gate that borders my side of the home. On Wednesday she sent her 80 something year old mother to serve me a second 3 day notice before I had even been able to speak to legal aid. On Thursday I met with her in person and she accepted a check from me with half of the amount and understanding I would pay the remainder today. 20 minutes later she sent a text stating that she decided not to accept partial payment and she gave my check to my friend who was there helping me pack. This was done without my consent. Friday she commenced with further harassment. There was a memo on my door stating that PER OUR VERBAL AGREEMENT I was expected to pay the full amount today. She received a criminal trespass citation for entering my unit last night at midnight.
Speak with an attorney at your first opportunity. The new laws that became effective Jan 1st may prevent your landlord from making you move
A proper response would require a much more thorough and complete investigation into the history and facts set forth in your question. Any statements provided by me regarding your inquiry is nothing more than an opinion, and does not represent legal advice or create a client relationship.
