In November, my husband kicked me out of the house with my daughter, not his, and our son. I had nothing but $20 and some clothes. I asked him to file divorce because I couldn't afford it. He dragged it out. All I've asked for was half of the taxes because my car broke down and I have no way to get the money. He agreed. He filed jointly, forged my signature, claimed my daughter(not his child) our son,his two children and myself. I have reason to believe he lied about the amount he is getting. But I agreed on what he offered me. Now he files divorce and wants me to sign papers immediately or he wont give me the money. I dont agree to what is on the papers and dont want to sign them but I really need the money. I can't afford any help, I have no living close relatives and no idea what to do. I want this abusive, manipulative marriage to end but it just seems so unfair that him and his girlfriend get a new house while I get stuck drowning. Anything will help. I just dont know what to do or what I'm entitled to or where to start. He lives in Laurel which is an hour drive from where I live and refuses to give me anything unless I drive there( broken car) and immediately sign papers.
You are in a tough position. I understand it is difficult to find an attorney. I used to practice law in Forest, and every attorney in that area are good attorneys and good folk. There may be some local lawyers who will take your case pro bono, but at the least, some will offer an initial consultation at little to no cost to advise you of your rights. Don’t wait, start making calls. Good luck.
