A few years back I lost my job and was homeless rather than have my son be homeless with me I allowed him to stay with his grandparents. I don't get along with them but they took care of my son. Since then Rich my father in law has constantly downed me to my son and even went as far a printing out a false police report with my name on it and giving it to my son and now I'm told they have guardianship of my son and are telling y mother now that I have to have supervised visitation. I NEVER gave consent to nor was even notified of any hearing or guardianship period. The in laws knew where I started living and had my phone number. My son would come stay weekends with me but it was a bad neighborhood. My son is 14 now
Assuming they have a actually guardianship you need to look for the Court records to determine where they sent notice to and what is the order regarding the guardianship. You still have your parental rights but you will likely have to file a motion terminate the guardianship so you can reassert your parental rights. That may require going to a trial if your ex-in-laws choose to fight the matter. The standards and laws for guardianship are different then custody. I would highly suggest meeting with an attorney to review the case.
