I live in NC..my son turns 17 Weds the 27th and I was serve with child support papers last week. I have always been involved in my son"s life financially..( I live 2 miles away from him) He is in 10th grade and lived with me his 8th grade year. I noticed that his mother has a lawyer listed on the summons and I am lost at to what my options are.
I filed for for full custody two years ago, and was will to settle for join custody because we live in very close proximity to each other. The judge ruled in his mothers favor, stating that he, "doesn't grant joint custody"
I do not wish to be "used" as a means to get out of financial problems by his mother.
Firs,t you should hire an attorney. Assuming you can't. Child support will be based on the incomes and the amoutn of time the child spends with you. Further, child support will not be retroactive...it will start now. Finally, keep copies of whatever evidence you have of the support yuo have been providing.
