We bought a used vehicle in PIEDMONT SC from a used car dealer. As is, no warranty but verbally told us he drove it daily. No issues other than power antenna and oxygen sensors. (It was not in his inventory of "mechanic specials."....his inventory that you KNOWINGLY buy that will require repairs. After test driving and completing the sale, we took it to a local mechanic to have a small oil leak fixed. I went to check on it several weeks later and found out the frame is rusted through in at least 3 places, upper control arms on rear axle are not attached due to brackets rusted away. Rear brake housings are rusted through, as well as rear differential housing. Mechanic told me he would be extremely hesitant about even driving it home. When I spoke face to face to the dealer, he claimed he didn't know about any of the issues, he felt bad, he was broke....He would pray for an answer. I suggested he trade us something comparable in condition and price. That was 45 days ago and he's yet to respond to my offer and continues to sell cars.
You can try and sue based on his representations that he drove it and it was good, but buying a car "as is" means just that. You take it knowing that there may be issues and they will be yours to deal with.
