September 2016 issued 2 tickets in ND, Speeding 5 > & Care Required? totaling $55 for both, I didn't pay. Sometime late December I received letter form Illinois saying my IL Lic. would be suspended if I didn't pay ND. Went on to say if I paid after the Susp. date of 01/09-17 I would need to bring in proof., If paid before, no proof needed. I sent payment to ND fedex Next morning delivery. Then followed up with both clerks. Both confirmed over the phone they had my payment and would be norifying Illinois electronically that day. Crisis averted! On 3/5/17 I was stopped by Foristell because he 'heard me on the rub strip'. Which I was for a instant to avoid debris on highway 70. He assumed I was drinking or drugs, I wasn't. However he ran my liscene then arrested me for DOS. I paid 350 to bond out, 260 to change flights, almost fired for missing my flight out for the new job I started. Then 130 after my business trip for a taxi and 189 to get car out of impound. And I have a ticket for failure to maintain a lane. Ill Rescinded on 3/7 based on evidence on file. but says they are not liable, ND sent me the original receipts and also say no liable. I am out about 1k plus so far.
I don't blame you for being angry. That's a lot of money and aggravation; however, I think you'll only lose more money and get more angry if you file a lawsuit. It would probably get dismissed on the basis of qualified immunity. Plus, you'd need to be willing to show up at court multiple times. I realized that you were pressured to pay the charges, but you'll face the argument that by paying the fines you admitted your guilt. Bad situation.
