Statute of limitations in Alabama is three years from the date of the theft. June 2018, statute will run. DO NOT TALK TO THE POLICE. If you give them a statement, they will attempt to get info from you that aligns with the alleged victim's story. If they don't have probable cause to arrest you now (which it appears they do not since you were not arrested) they will try and get that info from you. Telling a police officer that you do not want to talk to them can never be used against you in court, ever.
Depending on the value of the items allegedly stolen, the statute of limitation could be one year (misdemeanor charge) or 5 years (felony charge).
