My doctors office gave my patient information (that I am a patient there, and who my doctor was) to my mother. I am 45 years old and don't live with her. Is there any legal recourse against the medical facility? Oh, the medical facility is an Army hospital.
I do not believe that HIPPA laws will give you a private cause of action but you maybe able to contact your state's agency (such as Attorney General) that enforces such Acts to have them take action on your behalf. This is not malpractice so I will change the class for you. Good luck.
