I am looking to marry a man from Africa in a few months time. We have a wedding planned there but I have many concerns. I know nothing about the law there and wonder if its a good idea to legally marry there or should I just do a traditional wedding there and file for a K1 visa to bring him the state of Oklahoma for the legal marriage? If I marry in Africa will it be hard to get approval for him to come here?
Would it be smarter and less expensive to just file for a K1 visa? Could you tell me the possible time frame for each process?
This does not appear to be a prenuptial law issue, rather it appears as an immigration issue. I am changing the practice area so that you receive appropriate responses.
This answer is not legal advice, and does not create an attorney - client relationship. This answer is for educational purposes only.
The cost and timing of a K-1 fiance visa is almost the same as filing directly for a green card after you go there and marry. And the K-1 is two steps to get a green card, whereas filing for the green card directly after getting married there is only one step.
