I was recently in Virginia Beach for a mini vacation. We were staying at the Travelodge hotel , on our way back to the room that night I realized it was a bus in the bus lane. Because of the glare from all the different lights I could not tell exactly what was going on but I did see that a police vehicle ahead with no lights on. I slowly approach the bus from the opposite side on which the bus was parked to see if I could get into my hotel from the next entrance since the bus was at the first entrance . Soon as I get to the beginning of the bus the police cut the lights on and gave me a ticket . I tried explaining I was not from the area and I did not realize what exactly was going on or that I had to stop. I got a ticket but never had got a ticket or anything on my record before. What do you believe will happrn in court ?
This is actually a pretty serious matter. i am assuming yo received a reckless ticket for Va. Code 46.2-859. Reckless driving is a Class ! misdemeanor. It is an offense for which you can potentially receive a jail sentence and/or have your O.L. suspended for up to 6 months. You describe a situation which has a lot of potential to have the charge lowered, especially where you have no prior record. But be forewarned, courts take the passing of school buses very seriously. You really do need to hire an experienced traffic/criminal attorney to assist you.
