I have been trying to collect back child support for almost 4 years through my private attorney and do not seem to be getting anywhere. The only time I get any money is if I insist on taking him back to court and he will end up paying some to keep from going to jail but I get stuck with the attorney bills so I dont feel like I am getting anywhere? Any suggestions? Would OCSE have been a better choice? From what I hear it is very hard to collect from him because he is self employed?
OCSE usually takes longer, but they have more remedies available to them. For example, they can suspend someone's license, they can refer a case to the prosecuting attorney for criminal prosecution. The problem with them is they are usually over-worked and you probably won't get to talk to their attorney much (if at all). Collecting from a self-employed non-custodial is always tricky.
