I have a fee dispute with an attorney and I am looking to hire an attorney with experience in arbitration.
There are many attorneys that are experienced in handling arbitration cases in general. The best thing you can do is search on Avvo for arbitration attorneys in the Harris County area. You may also call the HBA and ask for a list of the attorney/arbitrators on their committee. Any attorney that is not an arbitrator with your case, can represent you in your fee dispute. Finding an attorney that is well-versed in arbitration and ethics is very important. I have served on several Fee Dispute arbitrations as an arbitrator and the attorneys with experience make all the difference. Try looking on Avvo and maybe call the HBA too.

I am usually all for people having an attorney. I also understand that going up against an attorney can seem intimidating. So if the amount of the dispute is large, do a search on AVVO for a lawyer with arbitration experience. However, the HBA arbitration is not exactly like a usual arbitration. The arbitrators are volunteers of whom at least one is not an attorney. So consider just doing it yourself. The rules are not formal, so you don't have to worry about crossing i's and dotting t's. Again, if it is a significant amount, definitely get an attorney. But you will have to pay that attorney to go to the arbitration. So take that all into account.
This is not legal advice. You should always discuss the specifics of your issue in person with an attorney. Be aware that there are time limits on all claims that depend on the kind of claim, so do not delay in seeking an attorney.
Mr. Arbuckle is correct. Follow his advice. I only write to add that the lawyers with the most experience with HBA fee dispute arbitration are the ones who get into fee disputes with their clients.
