Missed child support court in Virginia almost 2 years ago and wanted to see if there was a time limit for the warrnt
Was the show cause/warrant served properly? Are there any defenses for failure to appear? If there are no defenses, then it will remain open and valid as long as you appear and resolve the issue. There is no time limit on that warrant. You can discuss your case facts with a local attorney and check the balance amount and make a game plan before you plan to appear. You can set a new appearance date or make a pledge to comply.
It is best you hire an attorney. The Judge won’t be sympathetic as a long time has passed since the court date. Your attorney can file a motion to quash the warrant. Still the underlying issue of nonpayment of child support has to be addressed first.
