I requested my personnel employee file through the EEOC and FOIA. We were looking at some statements written behind me by the management. They were not included in the package. The file arrived full of write ups without my signature and my consent. I never knew these things were in my file.
Ask your lawyer or get one. For the most part there is little discovery you can do unless you file a lawsuit.

Follow attorney Steven's advice and get an attorney. Use Avvo to locate an employment/labor law attorney near you. Good luck.
Unless your employer was a government employer, then as the other attorney noted, you will need to file a lawsuit to obtain discovery. The best advice anyone could give you at this stage is to sit down with a qualified employment lawyer in your area to discuss the matter in some detail. Good luck.
