A friend was charged with traffic violations in early 2016. In early 2017, A new case was filed with the type : BONF.
From what I can ascertain... there is judgement amount of about $10k.
What does this mean for my friend? Is he in trouble?
If he was out on bail, in the amount of $10,000 with a bail bondsman, and he failed to appear for trial, then the bond would have been forfeited and the bail bondsman would have paid that amount to the court. The bail bondsman can then file for a civil judgment against the defendant to collect on the forfeited bail. Without knowing more about the case, that's just a guess as to what may have happened.
Forfeiture of Bail occurs where someone was incarcerated and either that person or someone else put up cash or collateral to have them released. The person who was incarcerated then likely failed to appear at a hearing.
It means that whoever posted your friend's bond now owes the State $10K.
