My child is 11 and goes to their father's house(out of state) for the summer. I talk with my child everyday and they tell me things that their stepmother says while their father is at work, or not in the same room. I've brought it to my ex husband's attention and he says my child is lying. According to the definition of "verbal child abuse" what is being said/done to my child by the step-mother IS in fact verbal abuse, yet nothing is being done about it.
What am I supposed to do when I'm trying to co-parent and my ex won't even listen to our child about what is going on?
You probably would need to get a counselor involved to get dad to open his mind and ears. It will be hard to present to court unless court talks to child or expert evidence exists to support modification of parent child relationship. You need to consult family law counsel.
Hire an attorney. Record the child's phone calls--don't coach. File a Petition to Modify. Get the child into counseling or play therapy.
