So I had the apsolute best person to defend an do the job. Unfortantly this person will only have his legacy of greatness, an will be sadly missed. Here's the current problem. Our "trial" begins in 3 days. Not pre-trial, actual trial is in 3 days. What do I do now? Everythings in motion. I'm affraid that now without being represented ill be screwed big time.
Under the circumstances you can ask the judge for a reasonable continuance in order to allow you to find an attorney. You may want to file a 1050 motion to set it out.
I am pretty confident that the Judge will give it another date. In terms of getting another lawyer, I cannot advise you on that. If he had a partner at his firm, that person may be able to up to speed faster than someone that is completely new to the case.
You should request a continuance from the judge. Under these circumstances the judge should find good cause for a continuance in order for you to find a new lawyer.
