You will be appointed an attorney if you cannot afford one. If you can afford one, Hire one. IF you are acquitted of the charges, then hire another attorney and sue your ex.
Your ex-husband told the cops that he lied and they are pursuing this anyway?
What crimes are you being charged with?
You need an attorney. if you cannot afford an attorney, a public defender will be appointed to you.
This reply is made in response to a question posted on a public message board. This response is for general information only. This response does not create an attorney-client relationship. You have not hired the responding attorney and the responding attorney has not agreed to represent you.
If you qualify the court will appoint you a Public Defender. Get to court early and go straight to the Public Defenders office to apply
I agree with the other attorney answers posted so far. You can try to reach out to private attorneys before your court date. But, if you can't afford one, make sure to get to court early. Before you go into the courtroom you're assigned to, stop by the public defenders' office. You can fill out an application for a public defender. The application asks for background and financial information to see if you meet the financial guidelines to be appointed an attorney. If you do, the judge will appoint an attorney to represent you that day and you'll be able to speak with him/her to go over your case.
