My girlfriend was accused of planning and driving a man to the place he was murdered (they say by her son). Her trial was first and her public defender didn't do a good job and she was found guilty. Her son was put on trial several months later and was found not guilty.
Unless there were some legal errors in her trial or conviction she cannot alter the status of the case. Her time for appeal has probably run by this time. She may have some claim for a collateral challenge but without more information about the matter it is impossible to say.
She needs to consult with an attorney to see what is possible but she is not in a good position to change anything and the longer she waits the less her chances of having the conviction reversed. Further, even if the conviction were reversed the matter would be returned to court for a new trial which could end up in the same situation.
