I need a license to perform my job and my company has always been in charge of renewing these licenses, my pay is deducted to cover the DOL fees. I have worked at this company 11 years and over the last 3 licenses I have run into issues. I got married in 2016 and when I got my new ID/SS card I changed my name with my company. My name wasn't changed on the first license and due to some other issues with my company I filed a formal complaint with our corporate hotline. I specifically named the person in charge of the licenses. When I received the second license for the second year it was wrong again. This year there was no deduction from my check so I made a point to contact management on 2/7. I called out this individual again to other office managers and filled out DOL forms and sent them back via email immediately. The forms were never mailed to the DOL and when my branch manager found out he drove them himself 6 days later. My license expired today so I can't work or I'm committing a misdemeanor and it can take up to 60 days to get a new license. I am not being paid during this time and I have expressed to management that this is retaliation for the complaint I made.
This does potentially sound like retaliation. There are probably other violations as well. I would recommend speaking with an employment lawyer to discuss all the facts and circumstances.
