I went to renew my license in Colorado, and was informed that there was an OUI arrest under my name from 1985 in Maine and that I must deal with them.. It was an arrest (don't even remember, I had no license in Maine) not a conviction. But Maine is telling me I have to pay fines and go through an alcohol drink driving course, get special insurance in my state before they will release the hold. I have asked for the documents and all they have is an arrest doc, no photo, no fingerprints and also the arresting location destroyed their records several years ago. I can't legally drive now. I have never had a ticket in my life or been arrested for any DUI/OUI etc. What do I do? I am under the impression there is a statute of limitations, however I cannot seem to find anything.
Sounds like you need to consult with a lawyer with privileges to practice law in Maine to help sort this out. If Maine is like Colorado, a drunk driving conviction never goes away.
