Who did you pay your security deposit to? If you don't receive the deposit within 60 days, that is probably the person you will want to sue to seek recovery of the deposit and treble damages (total of $2,100). Their claim that the property has been sold shouldn't matter unless they can prove that the deposit was transferred to the new owner and file a third party complaint against them. You will need to provide proper written notice before you file a lawsuit if you want to recover treble damages.
If you cannot find that person, that will be an issue. You will have to decide whether it is worth the expense to hire a private investigator to track them down.
