My daughter has 4 kids. I have custody of 3 of the children. 2 yrs ago my daughter went to jail and left her 6mth old daughter with a lady I assumed was the father mom. Not until this yr I found out this lady is no blood relative to my granddaughter. I get my granddaughter every weekend, holiday and summer. I found out what day court was by calling the social worker from when I got my other grandchildren. Just at the end of November I met my daughter at court. I knew they would not give her the baby. I wanted to be there so the courts would know that I love and wanted my granddaughter to be in the home with me & her siblings. But the guardian ad Litem asked that the court room be changed due to a conflict of interest. Because that’s the court I gained custody of my other grandchildren. Now we back in court December 10th. I was not allowed in the courtroom because the petitioner didn’t want witnesses in the room. My daughter had stormed out. I made her go back. Next time my daughter came out screaming leaving. The judge would only say court over. The guardian ad litem just say never looking at me and says guardianship is to the lady. I was never allowed in the courtroom. What to do
You need to consult with an attorney experienced in guardianship matters. Since you already have the siblings and are a relative, the Court will give you priority as a guardian since there is a presumption in maintaining the siblings together and a preference for a biological relative.
