My husband bought his home from his parents when they decided to buy a mobile home and placed it on the acre next door. The problem is that both homes share water lines and his father owns the meter. When his father gets angry about something usually having to do with demanding money from us. He shuts off our water. He was charging us $300 to $350 a month for water which is crazy. He said that was our part. He refused to ever show us a bill. When my husband started telling him we weren't going to pay that much unless he showed us the bill he now refuses to let us use water. We live in Von Ormy, TX but now are apart of the San Antonio annex. We live on acreage sites.
We need more facts to give a definitive answer. First, go to the water provider and see if you can get a separate meter. Some will, some won't put two meters on the same lot. If there are two separate parcels, I suspect you can get a separate meter. Was there an agreement in writing about this arrangement? If you can't get a separate meter, take whatever documents you have an contact a real estate attorney. Can you did a well to get water?
