I was ticketed for driving left of center. It was supposed to be paid on June 4th. I forgot and plan on paying it on Monday. Will I face any penalties? It was in Bay City, MI
Call the clerk but the normal situation in my state is that if you pay the ticket before it has been sent to the State DMV and referred to collection there is no penalty. However, even if an assessment was made you can ask that it be removed which may or may not happen.
Each state has their own system, however, so you have to ask in yours about this question.
In Michigan you have 14 days to respond to a citation. If you do not, it is classified as a "default" and an automatic $25 default fee is applied. If 56 days pass without you doing anything about your ticket, the state applies a statutory 20% penalty. After a period of time (each court sets its own timeline) the court may issue a "show cause notice" demanding that you appear in court to pay or explain why you have not. Part of that includes adding a show cause fee. If you do not respond to the show cause order, the court will usually issue a bench warrant for your arrest - not for failure to pay, but for contempt of court. They will also add a bench warrant fee at that point.
