I am a PhD candidate attending The University of New Orleans. I am presently on F1 visa. I had got post-OPT from Feb 28, 2016 to Feb 29, 2017 hoping to finish my PhD after applying the OPT. Due to some overwhelming comments on my dissertation, I could not finish my PhD in-time. I am going to finish my PhD end of Spring semester. My post-OPT grace period is going to expire on April 30, 2017. I was employed throughout my post-OPT period. I wonder, What all options are available for me to continue further in the US until I get a job and change the visa status without compromising my immigration status? I greatly appreciate your help. Thank you.
Perhaps you qualify to do a self petition. Perhaps you want to change to a visitor's visa. There are many different nonimmigrant visas, and you can find some at www.travel.state.gov.

You could talk to your DSO about a post-doc program/degree.
Or, apply for teaching jobs, they can be cap-exempt.
