I need to work. I worked for a company and then U started having seizures and was put on medical leave. I have gone treatment for this and have not had a seizure in 6 months. Went for a job interview and had what the doctor called a break through seizure and pulled my work release. I was offer a job by another company. Can this really stop me from getting a job.
This is not a workers' compensation question per se. Seizures can prevent your from getting a job if the seizures prevent you from safely performing the duties of the job. Employers are required to make reasonable accommodations regarding your medical condition, so long as it will not cause them a substantial hardship. If you lie on an employment application about your seizure condition, there can be negative consequences if your seizure condition causes you to suffer a work injury. If your seizure condition is not controlled by medication, despite full medication compliance, you may be entitled to Social Security Disability or Supplemental Security benefits.
In certain circumstances an employer is required to provide an employee with a reasonable accommodation if the employee (or applicant) has a disability that is covered by the law. However, the employer may not be required to do so if the employee is a direct threat to his or others' safety. Also, I am really not clear if this was an action by the employer or by your doctor as you indicate someone, presumably the doctor, pulled your "work release."
