unit. are there any laws or health ordinances concerning this issue?
You'd be more comfortable in an apartment, and you may miss having a toilet or shower, but I don't know.
Most if not all storage units have rules that forbid this. If it's not your unit management would view you as a trespasser. In short the municipality won't care if you sleep on private property as much as the owner of the ground will. You could try renting an office but ussually those leases also say no staying over as they are zoned commercial and permitted as an office not a hotel.
The storage facility has rules against this. At a minimum, it violates zoning laws, and health dept laws.
